Together with the localization of softwares in PCS and laptops, we have also done some preliminary research work on the localization of the software for hand held devices like the mobile and the PDA in collaboration with the Kathmandu University. Works on the localization of software for hand held devices include SMSing software and PDA localization.

With the development of the operating system in Nepali, our another immediate focus is now on the research and development of NLP tools and applications. This has been projected in the light of the research and development of the Nepali Grammar Checker. We are currently working on the research and development of the intermediate NLP tools required for the Grammar Checker for Nepali or any other NLP Application for Nepali. These include the tokenizer, machine-readable lexicon, stemmer (morphological analyzer), chunker and parser etc. We plan to release a prototype of the Nepali Grammar Checker in 2008.

Translation, which is another crucial part of localization has also matured considerably in due course of the running of the Project. We have completely localized GNOME 2.10 , GNOME 2.14, GNOME 2.20  Desktop Environments and other GNOME related applications. Similarly, we have already translated KDE 3.5 and KDE 4.0 along with KDE related applications. We have similarly worked on the translation of Debian and Fedora installers. As we move on, we hope to create a good technical translation community in Nepal.

The PAN Localization Project, Nepal Component also has been actively involved in creating awareness and interest of the general masses towards Free Open Source Software (FOSS), its usage and the impacts in a country like Nepal. FOSS Communities have been developed locally and efforts have been put to promote FOSS applications whenever and wherever possible.

Starting from May 2007, the PAN Localization project has entered it's second phase (May 2007 – Jan 2010) with it's prime focus on the successful deployment of the developed technology in Phase I (Jan 2004 – April 2007). Two more country component partners have been added in the second phase, which are respectively, Mongolia and the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya (MPP) has signed a Memory of Understanding (MoU) with E-network Research Development (ENRD) as a country partner institution for the deployment of NepaLinux and other localized applications in some five rural sites of Nepal in Phase II. Already some homework for the deployment of NepaLinux in these respective places  have been done, which include baseline survey of the infrastructure and ICT skills of the user communities as well as trainer's training for the local ICT operators of these sites. User level training for generating five more trained users in these sites by the trained ICT operators is being planned to conduct in January 2008.

Besides the deployment of technology developed, we are also continuing to develop useful technology. Some of our major involvements in technology development in Phase II include the Nepali Optical character Recognition system, Nepali Grammar Checker, Nepali Spell Checker enhancements and NepaLinux 3.0. As can be seen from above, we are giving substantial efforts on Natural Language Processing applications development as we believe that technology should be made available for and in the local language.
